Information that should not be shared in chats or groups to avoid becoming a tipster

Russian intelligence collects and analyses information from both open sources and social media posts. Any publication on the topic of war can become a source of information for the enemy.

In no case should you post photos, videos, or even your thoughts on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the objects protected by air defence, and how many pieces of equipment you saw or missile launches you heard.

You can't be sure that one of the participants in a private chat will not make your message public or forward it to someone else, and it will eventually reach the enemy. According to the law, the person who took the photo or video is liable for punishment, even if the Russians didn't receive it from him or her.

In summer 2023, a court sentenced Kyiv residents who filmed air defence operations to criminal sentences.
They were sentenced to 5 years in prison each, with a probationary period of up to 3 years, for simply posting the video on the Internet.
