The most commonly used have been<\/span><b> K-51 and RG-VO gas grenades<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> containing <\/span><b>CS and CN agents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which affect the eyes and respiratory system, causing tearing, coughing, difficulty breathing, and temporary incapacitation. These agents are not intended for use in warfare, and their use during armed conflict constitutes a violation of international law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article provides recommendations on how to identify signs of chemical weapon use, prevent exposure, and administer first aid.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"title_anchor\">\n    <span id=\"loudspeaker\" class=\"title_anchor__anchor\"><\/span>\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <h2 class=\"title title-5\">\n            Official Reports of a Chemical Attack        <\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\">\n<p>Chemical weapons are extremely toxic but their use cannot always be determined quickly. That is why it is important to follow the reports from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dovidka.info\/en\/communication-and-information-retrieval\/\">official sources<\/a> and strictly follow the instructions they provide. Such messages should include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>announcements of signs of use of chemical weapons;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>the main features of the detected chemicals;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>the region where they have been deployed;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>recommendations to prevent injury and primary care;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>ways for victims to receive help and emergency numbers;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>instructions for people who need evacuation from the affected area;<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>Generic chemical alert reports are common for all categories of chemicals. Once the use of a specific chemical weapon has been confirmed, official announcements and instructions will be detailed.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"title_anchor\">\n    <span id=\"atom \" class=\"title_anchor__anchor\"><\/span>\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <h2 class=\"title title-5\">\n            Signs of chemical weapons use        <\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>If you are in a combat zone, pay attention to the following external signs of the use of chemical weapons:<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>two or more people became incapacitated for unknown reasons,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>unknown liquids, powders, or vapors were found,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>incomprehensible smells or tastes are felt,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>unknown and\/or unattended materials, devices, or equipment were found,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>there is massive rapid death of small animals (birds, insects),<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>there is a mass manifestation of physical symptoms of chemical damage (read more about physical symptoms below).<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>Any of these signs can be an indicator of the use of chemical weapons. The presence of several symptoms at the same time indicates an increased likelihood that the incident is related to the use of chemicals. Immediately report the presence of such signs to the emergency services number \u2013 call 112 (the dispatcher will relay the call to the team of the required service)<\/p>\n<p><b>Attention!<\/b>\u00a0If you suspect the use of chemical weapons, respond appropriately to reduce the potential harm to yourself and others. Do not put yourself in danger!<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"title_anchor\">\n    <span id=\"head\" class=\"title_anchor__anchor\"><\/span>\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <h2 class=\"title title-5\">\n            Priority actions in the area of chemical contamination        <\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>What to do if you find yourself near a chemically affected zone.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>If you are outdoors:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Leave the affected area. The less time you are in contact with chemicals and the farther you are from the epicenter of the contamination, the less you will be affected by the contamination.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Try to move fast, but do not run. Your breathing should be calm and slow to inhale as little poison as possible.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Find a shelter nearby. If possible, return to your home.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-10\">\n<div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-10\">\n<p><b>If you are indoors during a chemical alarm:<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>If possible, go upstairs and find a room with as few windows and doors as possible. Chemicals are usually heavier than air, so the upper levels of homes will be cleaner.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Reduce the flow of air from the outside. Close windows, doors, vents, and anything else that helps air enter the room from the outside.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Do not eat or drink anything that may be exposed to chemicals.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Turn on the news on the radio, television, or the web to receive updated health and safety information. You\u2019ll be notified once it is safe to go outside.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-11\">\n<p><b>If you are in your car and cannot leave<\/b> the affected area, minimize the risk of chemical exposure:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Pull to the side of the road so as not to block or obstruct the movement of emergency vehicles.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Turn off the engine and close all vents that draw in air from outside, including the air vents. Starting the engine and driving will draw in outside air into the car and can expose you to chemicals.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>To minimize the amount of chemicals you inhale, cover your mouth and nose with a cloth, such as a scarf or a handkerchief.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Listen to further instructions from emergency personnel at the scene or listen to the news on the radio or follow official sources on the Internet.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"title_anchor\">\n    <span id=\"safety\" class=\"title_anchor__anchor\"><\/span>\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <h2 class=\"title title-5\">\n            Symptoms of chemical exposure and priority safety measures        <\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-13\">\n<p>The main physical symptoms of the use of chemical materials:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>miosis (excessive narrowing of the pupils),<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>disorientation and sweating,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>twitching and convulsions,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>respiratory tract irritation and difficulty breathing,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>eye and skin irritation,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>nausea and vomiting,<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>loss of consciousness.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>What to do if you have symptoms of chemical damage, or you think you have been in contact with a chemical (for 15 minutes after exposure):<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"checklist\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>Remove the top layer of your clothing.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>If possible, put the clothes in a bag and close the bag. Place this airtight bag in another bag and seal with duct tape. Instructions for disposal or cleaning will be provided later.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>If you have signs or symptoms of corrosive or irritating substances \u2013 such as redness, itching, and burning of the eyes or skin \u2013 rinse them with water.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <p>If the eyes are burning or irritated, rinse them with water for 10-15 minutes. Do not use soap to wash your eyes.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"checklist__item simple-text body body-2\">\n                    <div class=\"fusion-li-item-content\">Do not touch other people to avoid the possible spread of the chemical.<\/div>\n<div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-15\"><\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-15\">\n<p>Damage caused by a chemical agent cannot be transmitted from person to person. It is not a contagious disease that can be transmitted by coughing or sneezing. However, people can spread the chemical if it gets on their skin, clothes, or hair.<\/p>\n<p>People can also spread the chemical through body fluids. If someone else comes in contact with the chemical in this way, they may be harmed. After people exposed to chemicals take off their outer clothing and wash themselves, most of the chemicals will be removed and the likelihood of them spreading will be greatly reduced.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"title_anchor\">\n    <span id=\"extraction\" class=\"title_anchor__anchor\"><\/span>\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <h2 class=\"title title-5\">\n            Evacuation from the area affected by chemical weapons        <\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section class=\"text_block\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"body body-2 simple-text\">\n            <p>When evacuating from the area affected by chemical weapons, wear clean, close-fitting clothing that covers all areas of the body as much as possible. If possible, wear goggles, masks, hats, gloves, and a raincoat. If you need to be in the shelter, prepare an emergency supply of water, food, and essentials. Do not return to the affected area without the appropriate instructions of the Emergency Services Department and other emergency services.<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n
